The contact with a thousand faces (and one voice)

I don't think I'll ever run out of Issue 0 contacts, since every couple of missions I get introduced to a new one, but there's nothing very distinctive about them. They seem to share a lot of missions, which are mostly one-and-done with little to connect one to the next, and perhaps as a result of this they all sound the same.

Medical students, reporters, private eyes, city workers... they all talk like cops. It starts to get a bit surreal, but maybe that's just how it is in a city full of superheroes – everyone who interacts with them uses the same tone because that's what heroes respond to.

A more prosaic explanation is of course that Cryptic hadn't quite worked out how to make the most of mission briefings back then. It got a lot better with subsequent issues, with contacts being tied to specific story arcs and having much more characterful dialogue to go with those arcs. City of Heroes had some amazing story arcs.

Just not at launch.
